Brentwood mom trades dead-end jobs for career with nonprofit’s help

Shaunette Buchanan used to dream of becoming a real estate agent when she grew up, enamored with the idea of showing off all the features that she imagined her own home would have to prospective buyers.

Fast forward a couple of decades, and reality is not all that different: The 29-year-old Brentwood resident loves her job with an affordable housing provider, which includes taking would-be tenants on walk-throughs of the apartments she manages.

But the years between then and now were difficult, and Buchanan believes she would still be stuck in a dead-end job instead of pursuing a career if she hadn’t reached out to local nonprofit Opportunity Junction for help.
